Outdoor kitchens and fireplaces
Cooking and gathering spaces built into the landscape, in materials made for Westchester winters.
Built for the climate
Outdoors, materials face heat, UV, freeze-thaw and moisture, and many that work indoors fail. Granite is the most common counter for Westchester estates; bluestone reads regional. Bases are natural stone, or stone veneer over masonry, and cabinetry is stainless steel or marine-grade polymer.
We avoid marble, wood framing and standard indoor cabinetry outside. They do not survive a Westchester winter.
Layout, utilities and permits
Layout. Grill, prep surface and refrigeration within a few steps of each other, with smoke kept away from dining areas and windows. In Westchester the prevailing wind is from the west and northwest.
Utilities. Gas, water and drainage, and electrical, with winterization built in for a cold climate.
Permits. Typically building, plumbing and gas permits. We coordinate them with the town as part of the project.
We walk the property, talk through what you want from it, and follow with a detailed proposal covering material specifications and a timeline.
Site analysis takes one to four weeks. Design development and construction drawings typically take four to twelve weeks once a concept is chosen.
Town permits typically take four to twelve weeks depending on the town. Work near a regulated wetland typically adds three to twelve months. We coordinate permits as part of the project.
A smaller project typically takes four to eight weeks to build. Estate-scale work runs from three months to a year or more.
Common questions
With the right design, yes. A roof, windbreaks and heating such as gas heaters or a fire feature extend use well into the shoulder seasons.
Granite is the most common for Westchester estates: UV-stable, freeze-thaw tolerant and heat-resistant. Bluestone reads regional. Avoid marble, which stains and etches outdoors.
The industry minimum is 36 inches on one side of the grill and 18 on the other. For frequent entertaining, more on both sides.
Yes, as part of the project. We coordinate licensed gas installers, the permitting, the line installation and the final inspection.
