Estate weddings are a distinct category of floral work, and they're one we've designed for across three generations. The same floral design brief produces different deliverables on different properties.

Time is different. Estate weddings typically have wider installation windows — we can arrive Friday afternoon and build through Saturday morning. Commercial venues often squeeze us into a three-hour window between the prior event's strike and the current event's ceremony. Estates trade tightness for logistics complexity (narrow driveways, limited staging, grounds crew coordination).

Every decision involves the family. At commercial venues, the couple's planner coordinates most day-of decisions. At estate weddings, the family (often the couple's parents, sometimes the couple themselves) is present throughout, and decisions evolve in real time. We're used to this rhythm and plan for it.

Property Characters: Bedford vs. Pound Ridge

The two towns neighbor each other and share northern Westchester's general character, but estate weddings in each have distinct feels.

Bedford (including Katonah and Bedford Hills) tends toward the historic — properties that have been in families for generations, landscape that's been cultivated over decades, architecture that leans toward traditional (Colonial, Georgian, Tudor). Wedding florals here often reference the property's heritage — palettes that harmonize with period gardens, arrangements that use cut material from the property's own borders where practical.

Pound Ridge tends toward the rural and architecturally varied — stone-walled properties, more modern estate construction, more wooded settings. Wedding florals here often lean more naturalistic, with native greens, meadow-character elements, and palettes that respond to the surrounding woodland rather than a formal garden.

Design Process for Estate Weddings

Our estate wedding design process diverges from commercial-venue weddings starting at the first consultation.

Site walk first

Before we propose a palette or scale, we walk the property with the couple (and often a family member who knows the land best). What's in bloom on the grounds this month next year? What's the view from the ceremony location? What landscape elements are load-bearing for the aesthetic — a specific tree, a stone wall, a perennial bed?

Tent or no tent?

Many estate weddings are tented. Tent selection (pole, clear-top, frame, sailcloth) shapes everything downstream — structural points for suspended installations, floor plan, lighting integration, weather contingency. Grounds staff integration

Properties with dedicated grounds staff (gardener, property manager, caretaker) have accumulated knowledge we need. Which lawns tolerate truck weight. Which borders shouldn't be walked through. Where the water spigots are. Where the power is. The staff becomes a collaborator, not an obstacle.

Permit and town coordination

Tented weddings, parking for 150+ cars, amplified music past town-specified hours — estate weddings often require coordination with local government. Bedford and Pound Ridge have specific permitting for tents over certain sizes and noise ordinances. We build this into our installation planning so arrival and strike timing doesn't run afoul.

Multi-day installations

Estate weddings often benefit from multi-day build-outs. Mid-summer (July–August): Tented weddings on expansive lawns; warmer-palette floral design; heat-resilient stem selection.

Fall (September–October): The richest estate-wedding season. Dahlias at peak, the property's own fall color, warm palettes. Particularly strong for properties with mature trees.

Winter (November–March): Less common but can work beautifully at estates with indoor spaces (library, great hall, conservatory). Sculptural floral direction, candlelight forward.

Integration with Landscape Services

Some estate weddings involve permanent landscape additions — a new perennial border installed specifically for the wedding, specimen trees planted that year, hardscape upgrades.
