Location: Armonk, NY
Style: Traditional landscape
An Armonk, New York property with a significant hillside challenge — steep grade, unstable soil, limited usable outdoor space. The solution combined structural grading with natural stone step installation and strategic boulder placement, transforming the hillside from a problem into a designed feature.
Sloped properties in northern Westchester are common. Done poorly, they produce retaining-wall fortresses with sharp geometry and plastic-looking plantings. Done well, they feel like natural formations with integrated pathways and established plantings that stabilize the grade without asserting artificiality.
This project took the second path.
Services involved
- Grading and erosion control
- Natural stone step installation
- Boulder placement
